NOAH CUTWRIGHT A tennis ball dreams of being a famous Wimbledon tennis ball, but instead finds himself the chew toy of a hyperactive puppy. Released on May 09, 2018. Director Statement: "Ever since I was a kid I loved animation. Even as early as eight years old I used to try to find any paper and crayons I could and try and tell stories of my childhood adventures through crudely drawn comics. This eventually evolved into the daily comic strip and short series, The Carsons. Over the course of my time spent at the Cleveland Institute of Art, my storytelling skills and animation skills have grown exponentially. I wanted to create an animated short that pushed my filmmaking and storytelling skills farther than they had ever been pushed. That's when I began work on Floyd. The kernel of the idea came from my dog. It was winter break, and for Christmas, we had filled the dog’s stocking with toys for Christmas. On Christmas Day we finally gave him the toys to play with. By the end of that day, the stuffed toys were torn to shreds, arms missing, stuffing everywhere, the squeaker nowhere to be found. That was when I thought, “What would it be like to be one of his toys?” From that initial idea, the story developed into one in which a tennis ball who dreams of being a famous Wimbledon tennis ball but ends up getting the short end of the stick. My dream is that those who watch Floyd will fall in love with the story and characters. I hope every scene will be surprising, funny. and heartwarming. I believe the cleverness and fun of the film make Floyd one of the most entertaining shorts I’ve been able to produce." -Noah Cutwright |
